Source Groups
I am so excited about me and my wife starting our source group this Friday! For those of you who don’t know what a source group is, it is a group of believers gathering together for fun, fellowship, encouragement, and teaching. It’s not just a time to make people hear what you have to say, but allow others to use the gifts and talents that God has placed in them.
It is a time to get to know each other more than you do on a Sunday. Let’s face it, most people only talk to each other( if your lucky) for maybe 2 or 3 minutes. Then, you don’t see them for another week. This is not God’s vision for the church. I also agree that God doesn’t want all of us shacked up together. I know I love people but I don’t want to see you that much! LOL! Source groups help you get to know one another, and form community.
It is a place for you to use your gifts in a more comfortable setting. (I am personally praying for some talented cooks to bring some off the chain snacks! Lol!) God has placed talents and gifts in each of us. Some have teaching skills. Some have musical skills. Some have the gift of encouragement. Some are gifted with the burden to pray and intercede for folks. What better place to start using these skills and God given talents! What better place to allow your gifts to blossom so they can one day be used in the church! I know what I have described sounds like what should be happening in the church to begin with but let’s really look at things objectively. You normally don’t have more than one person sharing the word on Sunday. You only have so many people that can play an instrument in a service. Source groups give people that may not have the opportunity to speak a chance to share their knowledge and experience. Source groups allow future ministers and ministries to be birthed from folks who may be asking “W hat can God do with someone like me?”
Source groups allow ordinary folks to be extraordinary in someone’s life. Maybe you don’t feel comfortable going up to someone and asking them if you can pray for them or offer an encouraging word, but In a small group setting, it makes it a easier to do that. You never know, you may be the answer to someone’s prayer!
Why are they called Source Groups? It is meant to be source of life to you and you to be a source of life for someone else. It’s not about you. It’s about what you are willing to bring to the table. You may think you have nothing to offer, but you will never know if you don’t go.
I am glad you posted. I hope that your new group will explode with blessings.
